Dusting off the old blog

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Scraping off what appears to be weeks worth of dust on my blog, I am now realizing it’s been a month since I’ve posted. Who knows who still reads here that used to. Thought that I would at least throw out an update that deserves praise and rejoicing.

Today was DAY 95 of my fast and Friday will be DAY 100!!

I cannot believe it has been that long. I have only been physically tempted twice in that span of time, once 40 days in, the next after another 40 days. Hmm… interesting… We’ll see what day 120 brings haha.

I am so thrilled by this and plan on making 2009 my first porn and sex-addiction free year :) Can’t wait to see what God will bring from this!! (more…)

Prayer Request

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

So tomorrow is the big day!

Gala Event with professional lighting designers and maybe some actors and actresses.

Three students (myself included) from UConn were selected to help with this event and OF COURSE I receive a phone call this morning from my platoon sergeant saying I had to report to duty on Saturday…

Now the dilemma of what to do. Skip out on drill? Skip out on the Gala?

I’ve called both parties but instead of praying for my personal gains in this matter, I am asking (advice from a friend) you to pray for the two parties – people counting on me at the Gala and the military – and that they have compassion on this situation I have been thrust into. I, yes, do ask that I get to do what I want but both sides so far are actively fighting for the best scenario for me and there doesn’t seem to be any finger pointing and “you disappointed me!” yet.

So pray for that – however it makes sense to you – because it is going to be a stressful weekend for me just figuring out which thing I can participate in and whether or not I’ll be mentally prepared for either.

Thanks!

Coming and Going

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

At St. Paul’s Collegiate Church, we are always in constant ups and downs in our weekly attendance due to the close proximity to UConn and high attendance from college students. It is amazing to see people my age and even younger riding the shuttle to get to our church week in and week out to hear about God and to worship Him.

What sucks is when people get callings elsewhere as they finish school. This is a natural thing, especially in a college town but it always comes when you don’t want it to happen. In the past two weeks, three very close friends of mine have received God’s calling to go elsewhere. (more…)

Face Planting at 20mph

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I went water-skiing yesterday … randomly …

A friend of mine called me up after I got out of work and said there was a get together down the road from her house to go skiing and it was only $10. Well, that’s all I needed to hear before I agreed to go. Yes it has been 8 years since I’ve gone but skiing is like bike riding right? Once you figure it out, it’s easy … right?

In theory yes. But for me, it may take some time to get used to it. I “got up” three times but ended up back in the water and on my last run, I completed a glorious swan-dive style face plant. All in all, I had a great time. Beth got up a couple times and actually completed a turn which was very fun to watch!

After wards, I headed back to her house for some dinner. (more…)

Lack of Preparation

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

If there is one thing I am bad at, it is preparing for things – school, church, dates, life. Preparation is not my strong point. But how is it so easy to identify such a problem yet so difficult to solve?

I am not one who has never had to suffer through strenuous work. I went through 4 months of basic training (in hindsight though, that was cake :) ), worked horrible hours full-time, went to Afghanistan. I understand what work is. But why do I still after 24 years have a hard time being a good steward of my time? (more…)

Out of My Comfort Zone .2

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Check out part one here if you missed it.

———

We pulled into Wendy’s, the perfect place for a solid meal between two strangers. I was tempted to pull a drive-thru but instead turned my car into a parking place. This meeting was too important to waste on a drive-thru run.

Getting out of the car, it was evident that this may become awkward. We had established each others age, his roots from Poland, and his homelessness. What else was there to talk about? What are you supposed to talk about in these situations? (more…)

Out of My Comfort Zone .1

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Right now I SHOULD be studying but my head hurts so much from lack of sleep and my back causing me stress that I’m taking a break to praise God for what happened today.

I’ve always wanted to do stuff like this and only since January have I actually acted on callings like these. Today was one of those days. After spending a few hours at work doing some admin stuff for my boss, I headed home in my car. Sidenote — nice weather has hit Connecticut for good now and it is awesome! Windows down, sunroof open — I am happy :)

Anyways, I’m a couple miles from home when I pass a kid that I saw back in August after the Leadership Summit. I remember wishing I had stopped to by him food since he had been holding a sign simply saying, “Hungry…” This time was no different. I passed him and wished I had stopped. (more…)
