Reading one of the many blogs (Man of Depravity) that I read each day, he post his usual foruitous bouncing post that contained a dozen or so links to other sites that he found interesting. One was a really good post on pornography and the lies that we feed into sometimes.

Interesting Post I Stumbled Upon
Sunday, October 12th, 2008WOW!!!
Monday, September 8th, 2008So this weekend!!
Absolutely unbelievable!! What an experience and time to get to hang out with pure professionals and all-around cool people. My role this weekend was one of three electrians for all the lights in the house. I was up on ladders and in the catwalk re-focusing lights, applying new gels, and hanging new lights as well. During the actual performance, I was one of the spot-light operators. Not glamorous but fun.
Not only did I get great hands-on experience working a real show with lights but I worked with professional designers who work the big leagues of lighting. Great guys and really chill. Brilliant designers and know how to think on their toes to create amazing shows.
The big news, however, is that not only did Tituss Burgess and James Naughton show up, but John Stetson, John Pizzarelli, Alec Baldwin, and Bette Midler were main acts as well!!! Let me tell you — all of them are classy people who are great people to work for and hang out with.
All in all, the weekend was incredible. The Hole in Wall Gang Camp is an incredible place that helps raise so much money for kids with cancer so that they can spend time with their family for a week of straight fun – no worries, no cares. Just family fun and time away from the troubles of having/dealing with cancer.
Things worked out in the end for me. God really stepped in and gave me an experience that I cannot wait to repeat next year! Amen!!
Another milestone reached…
Saturday, August 30th, 2008Yes…
The day has come…
My car has turned 100,000 miles old finally. Only a 2003, it drives like a charm and should last me another 75,000-100,000 if things work out correctly.
On a side note though, was it a smart idea to take the picture while driving on the highway??
Of all the things our children need…
Saturday, August 30th, 2008I pumped some gas into my car at the local gas station adjacent to the surprisingly popular V.I.P. (Very Intimate Pleasures) store yesterday. After finishing pumping, I pull out and see a car pulling out of the V.I.P. lot. Who do I see pulling out of the parking lot you might ask??
A man driving a van used for shuttling school children around….
Come on! Seriously! Knowing what I know about the destruction pornography causes, I don’t want someone entertained by it driving my child around!
Music and Movies of Monday
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
Its been a couple Mondays since one of these has come up. This week we’ll highlight one of my newer favorite songs. I had never heard the song before prior to Steve (former worship leader at St. Paul’s) played this song during one of the worship sets. Had me crying then, still has me crying to this day. Check his version out on the Worship Music page!
Absolutely phenominal song by Steve Fee called What Else Can I Do?. Definitely worth the check out on iTunes. For those already here, feel free to listen here. I actually loved Steve’s rendition of it that I tweaked some of the levels in the original recording and some of the tones and re-mixed it for you guys here. Not really sure if I am allowed to do that so sorry Steve Fee if that isn’t kosher
Enjoy!

Amazing News!!
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008So check this out!
Tim Hunter is the guy in charge of lighting at UConn and helps with the admission of students into the Design/Tech program @ UConn — i.e. the man to talk to to get my degree rolling. I met with him last year and showed him my portfolio and he loved it! He was impressed that I was one of the lighting electricians for the plays and I wasn’t even in the program yet and he thought I’d be a good candidate to start this Fall.
Haven’t heard anything official but it seems that I am tentatively in the program so yay! Better news yet, here is a series of emails I received from him yesterday — Enjoy and Praise God!!!
__________________________________________
I hope you are well and that you had a good summer.
I know you are interested in our program and so I would like to propose that we plan to get together during the second or third week of the semester to discuss how best to accomplish that move.
Prior to that I have a very cool opportunity that you might want to participate with. Ken Billington who is a very famous Broadway lighting designer does a show every September at the Hole in the Wall Camp. UConn provides three students to work with him on Friday September 5th and all day Saturday September 6th. Would you like to be one of those three?
Let me know and I will talk further with you about it.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Best, Tim
I replied “Of course I’m interested! Hook me up!” to which he responded:
Let me know and I will try to get you into the program. There will be lots of movie stars in the show as well. It is a lot of fun and they feed you very well.
Best, Tim
Amazing how God works!!! I’m really excited about this and even Starbucks was okay with taking a weekend off for this! So hopefully it turns out to be fun and beneficial to me!! Keep it in your prayers as I get more details!
Quote of the Week
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008So one of my friends walked into my apartment the other night and the first thing that I heard out of his/her (to maintain anonymity) was:
If you pray during sex, that isn’t wrong.
Thoughts? Haha.
What random things have you heard this week?
Reflecting on What Is…and Is Not…
Thursday, August 14th, 2008The last few weeks, without being too harsh, has been quite a trip. For those that read my post on my frustrations, you know what I was going through, and for good reason. To recap for those that missed out or don’t want to read about it, here goes.
- UConn took away my financial aid because of bad grades from years ago that I am still trying to bring back up.
- I have tuition bill that I cannot afford to pay.
- I am still not in the Fine Arts program pursuing a Design/Tech for Theatre degree.
- Tech responsibilities are piling on and things aren’t getting done.
- Credit card bills are still high making saving money a hard thing to do.
As always, God changes our focus from the things to Him and allows to see how much is at stake in life and that these small things are minuscule in comparison. That is what I posted on above.
To recap some of the results from these issues:
- Financial aid has been approved for me so I can afford school.
- I am a part time student so the $1200 health insurance is not required so I don’t have to pay that part of the bill.
- I just became eligible for a $34/month full medical with disability plan from Starbucks. Excellent!
- Tech is slowly becoming a bit more organized. There will be big changes but for the good. And so far there may be two new members to the team soon.
- Credit card bills are still high but slowly but surely coming down. My only concern is whether I can pay my tithe of one paycheck a month so as long as I can still do that, I am content with being in debt!
- Apparently I was accepted into the Fine Arts program tentatively under condition of maintaining a B or greater average so with only two classes, that is doable.
I am only able to do so much but with the help of God and his ability to put all the pieces in the right place, I can do everything. This semester will be interesting to say the least with huge tech commitments at church, becoming Shift Supervisor at Starbucks, and, of course, school.
Pray for me!
Big 3000!
Thursday, August 7th, 2008Wow, the blog here has only been around at this domain since April 8 and already I’m approaching 3000 hits. Never thought that would happen. And if you total the near 2000 hits from evanrummel.blogspot.com that puts me at almost 5000 hits since January!! And I don’t even talk about that important of stuff either!! Just what is on my heart or mind at the time!
Thanks for making this blog happening and investing your time in it!!
So that being said, I don’t even know who would be checking/actually reading my blog so give me a clue. Maybe I’ll find out some people were reading and I didn’t even realize!!
Where are you from? Who are you?
Moving On Up!
Wednesday, August 6th, 2008
No not to the east side… however I do live on the East coast. Does that count for something??
Anyways, I’m moving up in Starbucks. I got the word yesterday that I’ll be promoted to Shift Supervisor after two months! Great news and a lot of great feedback from the other baristas and shifts I work with, all enthusiastic on working with a new leader.
I’ve already started on task assignments during the week and helped with training new baristas and such which has been both fun and challenging. I’ll be looking forward to what the Fall semester has in store once school starts and the real responsibilities of work pile on, especially with the new tech additions in the Atmosphere team at St. Paul’s!!
All in all though, Starbucks has been a great fit for me and if you have ever met me, you’d agree. If you haven’t though, get on that plane and head on over to Starbucks on Deming Street and say hey to your friendly barista and new Shift!
