Silent Bliss

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Today is Sunday.

November 16th.

I have not consistently blogged in well over a month and it feels like my life is flying by and I am simply a prop in it, waiting patiently for the slow part to kick in.

I have been keeping true to my promise to a friend by staying clean and free from porn for 26 days now. The interesting part is that the promise to her has turned into a promise to myself and God. I want to be clean for myself and for God so that my relationship with Him can flourish.

In addition, I have been consistent in my scripture readings. While only reading Proverbs each day, I am now reading Proverbs each day (something I’ve never done). I can feel God working in my life and using the words in Proverbs to change my ways and actions in my day-to-day life. (more…)

blurry highway

On my way home from school, an Acura TSX sits behind me at the light, waiting to get onto the highway. I thought nothing of him, mainly because of my focus on the incredibly slow driver in front of me.

Red light changes to green.

A simple touch to the accelerator lights up my engine and propels me forward. The TSX creeps up on my bumper. I slow, anticipating the “high-speed pass” of the slow car ahead. Sitting back 100 meters or so, I downshift to third powering my car to 60, barely reaching 3000rpms.

I notice the TSX doing the same. Time to have some fun. (more…)

Thoughts from Proverbs

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I try to read through Proverbs each day. Doesn’t always work out well but here is some key verses that stuck out to me from Proverbs 23.

  • Verses 4-5 : Interesting I read this now after quitting a job that had me craving to get more money. Instead I am in a chill, less demanding, and certainly less paying, job at Starbucks.
  • Verse 12 : This is interesting to me because outside of physical schoolwork, I find I do this on a consistent basis. Talking to those smarter than I, learning from them, “mimicking” them to stray from harmful ways. But when it comes to sticking to the books (and Bible), I should take this verse more seriously…
  • Verse 17 : Don’t we all struggle with this? The person with the better car, cooler phone, nicer suit. They shouldn’t be our primary focus though because in the end, none of it lasts.
  • Verses 26-28 : Pretty self-explanatory and simple but for those that have and will deal with sexual immorality, this rains home a whole new meaning and something that we should be even more aware of.

Irresistible Revolution .0

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

So summer has finally come and thus the boredom kicks in. For all you college students out there, you know what I mean when I say that during school I want nothing more than to be out of school but when out of school I want nothing more than to be in school. It all comes down to my level of activity. The more active the better.

To keep myself sane though, I am attempting to develop better habits for my daily life. Constant learning, praying, quiet times, etc. This is one of those learning times.

I’ve never read Irresistible Revolution but own it. So to at least give Shane Claiborne some respect, I’m going to read/analyze it and post it here, however good or bad the book is (I’ve heard really good things though :) )

Check in periodically as this will be the first blog series I have done on something. Looking forward to it :)
