What Makes Me Tick

3108104464_fb230300c0If there is one thing in this world that I love, it is lights.

Lights, lights, lights.

Theater, presentation, around the streets, in houses, anywhere.

I love seeing a display of lights that takes my breath away. This year for St. Paul’s Collegiate Church, I have the privilege of being the Technical Designer for the IMAGINE Christmas service. It has been one of the most amazing experiences I have been asked to do and tomorrow (actually tonight since it’s past midnight ;) ), the first service begins.

I can’t even begin to say how excited I am. Like I said before, lights make me tick. Let me tell you right now – the lights this year are going to be unbelievable. The special effects – breathtaking… If you are not planning on attending IMAGINE Christmas or are still unsure, do it. Come see the Christmas story, the birth of Jesus, told in a different way. In a way that will blow you away.

I have, obviously, been to all the rehearsals. I have put in hundreds of hours on this service. Each and every time, there has been an overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit, so much the other night that I broke down, others broke down. I cannot believe how much God has moved in this church, working His magic to pull off the impossible, using us. Wow!

God is working miracles in Storrs, CT and we all better be prepared because He is coming!

Check out more IMAGINE Christmas rehearsal and show pictures here this weekend!!!

Live Recording Help!!!

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

My church runs live video recording software during three services in hopes of getting a good recording of the sermon for our night service. Aside from a couple minor glitches in learning how to tape a sermon and use the cameras, there has been no problems or issues in producing quality videos.

However, ONE MAJOR PROBLEM has come up.

Bad DVDs.

We live record and edit the sermon and immediately burn it to a DVD. Currently we use Imation DVDs but we are wondering if maybe there is a higher end DVD or another option for burning the video file that we should look into so that we can avoid these hiccups.

I’m kind of at a loss here and since this is very new to St. Paul’s Collegiate Church, we are having brain farts in fixing this issue.

On that note, I need your help fellow readers. Here’s my thinking.

You read here. Some of you comment. If you do either and blog yourself, please post a quick blurb about my issue and tell people to comment here with suggestions or to email me (evan@evanrummel.com).

This isn’t a huge pressing issue however the last three weeks we have had multiple bad DVD’s that failed to finalize and retain the sermon. I would like to fix this ASAP so go! Linkback and post to your blog community to get the word out.

Thanks!!!

Fun Little Jam Song from SPCC

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The other night at St. Paul’s, we rocked out to a funkdified version of What Wondrous Love. This was the acoustic version but it is still pretty rockin’!

Some of the levels are a little out of whack and couldn’t be fixed and although it is not professional quality, it is still worth listening to and perhaps worshipping a little.

Sunday Reflections

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

A little late yes, but with school starting and work continuing, my time has been limited towards personal reflection time. I’m actually on my dinner break right now posting!

Sunday, for those that read the previous entry, you’ll know that I had a big day lined up for myself and the Atmosphere team as a whole. Needless to say, it was a HUGE day for myself and the other coordinator on the team. We were at church from 7:30am until 9:00pm…

Yeah… long day anyone?

But you know what?? (more…)

The Day That Starts It All

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Tomorrow.

Sunday.

The day that will start madness. And craziness. And struggle. And complete and utter joy.

Tomorrow, St. Paul’s Collegiate Church will, after only 3 years, start a 4th service on Sunday. Services times and feels are as follows:

9:00AM – Traditions/Matins — Hymnal type music with basic piano/vocal driven feel.

11:15AM – Jazz — Led by critically acclaimed musicians Earl McDonald and Kris Allen, the service is heavily jazz-based and is surprisingly fun and engaging.

4:00PM – Evensong — Full band with drums, this service rocks out hard and big.

6:00 – Vespers/Unplugged — More meditative and responsive, the music has an acoustic feel and leads people to worship more deeply and spend time in prayer.

What does this mean for me? (more…)

Calling All Techs!! Help!!

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Alright – I’m in need of lots of feedback, lots of help on this one. I know there is only about 30 people who read this blog on a day to day basis but if you do and you read other blogs, linking back to me is key right now.

Currently, I am one of only three techs that will be staying on the Atmosphere team come January. We are losing people to new jobs in new states, new babies, etc. In place of the techs going forth with their other callings, we are gaining three video cameras and a live editing system, one of which I know nothing about.

This is huge because we are starting up a new service in the fall bringing the total to four services – HUGE!!! Amen for growth!! But it’s almost expanding too quickly for us techs to catch up and I want to be on top of things like whoa so if you know about video services, use cameras at church, do video editing, I need your comments. I need your emails. Link back to me – spread the word that St. Paul’s Collegiate Church Atmosphere team is in need of some support because without it, it may be a rough road that could distract people during services.

On that note, let’s hear some thoughts – concerns, tricks, tips.

How do you do it at your church? What should I be weary of and look for?

P.S. I’ll post our new system information when I get a hold of it so that you can be aware of what I’m dealing with!
