Starbucks Upgrade

I had my shift supervisor interview today.

I just got a call from my manager saying that I had passed and that I would start as shift almost immediately.  It was my second interview since I bombed the first one but this time I did well. Interaction between myself and the two managers was really good and prepping for it with my manager really payed off.

I have one class to go to and then I am officially a shift. Nice pay raise and definitely a good fit for me. I’m looking forward to working under this role and continuing this job to see where it takes me.

Already I have made great friends and good relationships with customers and have a reputation as the “funny guy who pretends to be a pirate or Barry White” over the drive thru intercom. So if you are ever in the Manchester neighborhood at night, be prepared for Pirate Pete or “Mr. White, but you can call me Barry” to prepare your beverage for you. Haha!

Moving On Up!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

No not to the east side… however I do live on the East coast. Does that count for something??

Anyways, I’m moving up in Starbucks. I got the word yesterday that I’ll be promoted to Shift Supervisor after two months! Great news and a lot of great feedback from the other baristas and shifts I work with, all enthusiastic on working with a new leader.

I’ve already started on task assignments during the week and helped with training new baristas and such which has been both fun and challenging. I’ll be looking forward to what the Fall semester has in store once school starts and the real responsibilities of work pile on, especially with the new tech additions in the Atmosphere team at St. Paul’s!!

All in all though, Starbucks has been a great fit for me and if you have ever met me, you’d agree. If you haven’t though, get on that plane and head on over to Starbucks on Deming Street and say hey to your friendly barista and new Shift!

Certified Dealer of Caffeine

As of 3:45pm EST, 30 June 2008, yours truly, Evan, earned his Barista certification pin from Starbucks store #10500 located in Manchester, CT on Deming Street, across from the local Panera Bread and UNO restaurant.

Sorry….had to drag that out and make it sound much cooler than it really is. Yeah I’m certified but since I have been running bar and drive-thru now regularly during my shifts, I have felt certified for a couple weeks. Numerous times though, and this is good news, my manager mentioned how she now was going to start my development plan for shift supervisor during this certification process. They are serious about moving people up and training new leaders, one thing I am happy about.

So for now, barista I shall remain – creating random concoctions of espresso, syrup, and steamed milk. Who knows, maybe someone will get another 6 shot caffinated latte when it is supposed to be decaf!!

I'm a good barista… really…

Working at Starbucks the last three weeks has been incredibly fun! Never did I think that I would be three weeks in and be in love with my job but it is awesome!

The people that I work with are great – totally have the same sense of humor that I have (very dry and sarcastic with a hint of dark) and are very helpful.

There is no hiding that I am the new guy but they don’t use that towards their advantage but instead take time out of their job to help me out when I need it, always lending a helping hand.

However, this post is not about how great my job is or how free coffee and tea on shift is the best invention ever. (more…)
