Something Afoot

Read here first to understand

———-

Right now God is cooking a vision up inside of me. I got so excited last night talking to a friend about what happened the other day (here and here) and how I want to help.

God showed me a broken man, a man that needs help from his brother in Christ, and I’ll be damned if I let him go through life unnoticed.

I nearly jumped out of my seat driving home. I’m very vision-oriented and all I could see was visions of Paul being helped, people loving him and inviting him into their community of friends. I can’t wait until (more…)

Out of My Comfort Zone .2

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Check out part one here if you missed it.

———

We pulled into Wendy’s, the perfect place for a solid meal between two strangers. I was tempted to pull a drive-thru but instead turned my car into a parking place. This meeting was too important to waste on a drive-thru run.

Getting out of the car, it was evident that this may become awkward. We had established each others age, his roots from Poland, and his homelessness. What else was there to talk about? What are you supposed to talk about in these situations? (more…)

To Make a Difference

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I had drill this weekend for the military. Usually, at least this past year of being home, I dislike going to this training weekends. One weekend a month — nothing happens. It sucks…

But this weekend was different. I absolutely love being completely exhausted after these training weekends. I’m in the infantry and love kicking in doors and shooting stuff all day. It’s fun and gets the adrenaline pumping. This weekend we didn’t kick in doors but we worked hard and shot a lot. Good times.

But I came to a strange realization though…

I want to go back to Afghanistan…? Not sure why this came up but it did. While I was overseas, I met a lot of Afghans and definitely had an impact on them, attempting to spread some sort of Christian love as appropriately as possible. Making a difference on the other side of the world was a huge thing for me.

In the next year or two, I’m slated to go back overseas again so mentally I’m already prepared for it considering I’ve done it once before. But there is something exhilarating about the danger of combat patrols. Yeah it sucks a lot but I had a great time overseas. Meeting those people and providing them with safety from Taliban forces meant something.

Who knows if this is just a phase but if my future has me going back overseas, I can’t wait. I’m moving up in the leadership and now am in control of my own fire-team *insert sinister laugh here* so I would certainly be promoted on that deployment. That sort of leadership makes a huge difference in my liking/disliking of the military.

Deployment or no, I definitely want to make a difference in the world. Only God knows what is in my future and I absolutely trust that He will use me to better the world.

Visioneering 1.1

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

“Visioneering. A new word. An old concept. A familiar process. Where definitions fall short, a story often achieves clarity.”

Andy Stanley - VisioneeringI’m reading Visioneering by Andy Stanley. I’ve been reading it for a while now but finally decided to do a blog-analysis of the book by chapter. I’ve noticed that I get a lot more out of reading scripture or books if I blog afterwards and become spiritually charged as a result. I’ve come to the realization that blogging is in fact one of my spiritual disciplines that helps me in my walk with God.

So here goes! (more…)

The Broken "5"

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I don’t know if you can tell or not.

There’s a tear in this $5 bill.

Right above Abe’s head is a piece of tape that wraps around the body of this bill, managing to keep it in tact for just one more day.

The broken 5.

Something that I shouldn’t have in my possession.

Something that I didn’t deserve but was given – gracefully and with joy.

A couple weeks ago I worked up at the Big E. First time for me to go up there so I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. Unfortunately it wasn’t THE Big E but rather a Home Show at the Big E grounds. For those that don’t know, I work part-time for Home Comfort Now, a sunroom and basement refinishing company. It’s a good job that pays my rent each month and has potential for promotions so I’m going to stick around and see where it goes.

But what was different about this weekend was (more…)
